ANTAKYA: FROM DESTRUCTION TO RENAISSANCE

Two years have passed since the devastating earthquakes that struck Türkiye and Syria on February 6, 2023. In Hatay, one of the places that suffered the heaviest blow, the scars of destruction are still visible. Yet amid the silence of the rubble, a differ
ent voice now rises from these lands: the voice of rebirth and solidarity.

This second photobook follows the first volume, Rising From the Ashes: February 6, and focuses on the moments where life has started to bloom again in Hatay. Across these pages, you will see hands held among ruins, children playing, women leading efforts to rebuild, and eyes that, against all odds, still gaze into the future with hope.

While preparing this book, we carried our losses in our hearts. The memory of our four beloved colleagues who lost their lives in the earthquakes is with us every step of the way. Their absence left a deep void within us, but their dedication and humanitarian values are woven into every word and every image in this work. Our Syria Programme Coordinator Dr. Mohamad Shahin and his family died in Hatay, while our clinic guard Ziad Salim, midwife Zahia Elomer, and lab technician Osama Elabod lost their lives in Afrin, Syria. We publish this book with deep respect for them and for all who lost their lives in the earthquake.

This book is not only a tribute to survival; it is a tribute to the people of Hatay and their struggle to rise again with dignity, determination, and unity.
